Here’s what you need to know if you drive a Ford Expedition, Escape, Maverick, or a Lincoln Navigator or Corsair.

1. Seatbelt Pretensioner Recall (Updated May 2025)

Ford has expanded a March recall after identifying issues with the driver and front-passenger seatbelt pretensioners in over 3,200 SUVs. These devices, which tighten seatbelts during a crash, could malfunction or deploy without impact—potentially startling drivers and causing an accident.

Affected models include:

  • 2018–2020 Ford Expedition
  • 2018–2020 Lincoln Navigator

Risk: Increased injury potential or unintended seatbelt deployment.
Fix: Owners will be notified by mail. Affected seatbelt components will be inspected and replaced as needed at no cost.

2. Engine Fire Risk in Hybrids and Plug-in Hybrids

A separate recall affects nearly 27,000 vehicles equipped with 2.5L HEV or PHEV engines, which could suffer engine failure or fires due to a manufacturing defect.

Models impacted:

  • 2020–2023 Ford Escape
  • 2022–2023 Ford Maverick
  • 2021–2023 Lincoln Corsair

Ford advises drivers to shut off their engine immediately if they notice smoke, strange noises, or reduced engine power.

Fix: Owners may receive software updates or full engine replacements. Letters will be mailed with instructions.

3. 1.1 Million Vehicles Recalled for Rearview Camera Software Glitch

Ford also announced a massive recall of nearly 1.1 million vehicles in North America due to a rearview camera defect. The image may freeze, delay, or fail to display, increasing crash risk while reversing.

Impacted models (2021–2025) include:

  • Bronco, F-150, Edge
  • Escape (2023–2024)
  • Expedition (2022–2024)
  • Transit, Ranger, Mustang, Mach-E
  • Lincoln Corsair, Navigator, Nautilus

Fix: Ford will issue an over-the-air software update. Initial notices will be sent by June 16, with follow-up letters once the fix is ready.
