EPCOT Fire Near France Pavilion Extinguished, No Injuries Reported
A fire broke out Saturday evening at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT park in Orlando, Florida, producing thick smoke that was visible across the area. The incident occurred in a backstage area behind the French Pavilion, part of EPCOT’s World Showcase.

Disney officials confirmed that the blaze was extinguished quickly, and no injuries were reported.
What Caused the EPCOT Fire?
According to Disney representatives, the fire began when a walk-in cooler caught fire. The cooler was located behind the France Pavilion, away from public guest areas.
Fire crews from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District responded promptly. The fire was put out around 7:20 p.m. local time.
Although no buildings sustained damage, the incident led to temporary evacuations, including the Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure ride.
How Did It Affect Park Operations?
- The France Pavilion reopened before the park’s 9 p.m. closing time.
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, a popular 4D attraction, remained closed for the night.
The ride, located in the affected section, offers a sensory-filled experience where guests follow Remy through Gusteau’s restaurant in Paris. While the fire did not damage the attraction directly, Disney closed it as a precaution.
Guests Capture Smoke on Social Media
Multiple videos and photos shared on social platforms showed black smoke billowing across the park’s skyline. Many visitors expressed concern before Disney confirmed that the fire was under control and there were no injuries.
The fire occurred during one of EPCOT’s busiest periods. Spring Break travel and the ongoing International Flower & Garden Festival had brought large crowds to the park.
Official Response and Safety Measures
Disney confirmed the incident through multiple media outlets, including FOX Business and the Associated Press. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has not issued a statement as of Saturday evening.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. However, fire response teams acted swiftly, and the area was cleared safely.
Saturday’s fire at Disney World’s EPCOT raised alarms but was quickly brought under control. No guests or staff were injured, and the affected area reopened the same evening, with the exception of one ride.
As theme parks continue to operate at high capacity during peak seasons, this incident underscores the importance of quick emergency response protocols and ongoing maintenance behind the scenes.
Guests are encouraged to check park apps or speak with staff for real-time updates if visiting during active incidents or attraction closures.
