Cathay Pacific Increases Flights to New Zealand for Summer

Cathay Pacific is ramping up its services to New Zealand starting this summer. Following its recent recognition as the third-best airline in the Skytrax Best Airline Awards, Cathay Pacific has announced an increase in flights to key destinations in New Zealand, including Auckland and Christchurch.

More Flights from Auckland

From December 2, 2025, to March 28, 2026, Cathay Pacific will increase its Auckland-Hong Kong flights from seven to eleven per week. This expansion is part of the airline’s commitment to strengthening its New Zealand operations and enhancing global connectivity through its Hong Kong hub.

Frosti Lau, Cathay Pacific’s regional general manager for the southwest Pacific, expressed pride in the service boost. He emphasized that the airline aims to offer better connections to key cities such as Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul, and Bangkok.

Christchurch Flights Brought Forward

In addition to the increased Auckland services, Cathay Pacific has decided to bring forward its seasonal flights to Christchurch. Starting on November 3, 2025, the airline will operate three flights a week between Christchurch and Hong Kong. The frequency will increase to four weekly flights during the peak summer months from December to February.

This decision reflects the growing demand for travel to and from the South Island and strengthens the airline’s ties to Asia and beyond. According to Christchurch Airport’s Chief Executive, Justin Watson, this move offers more choice, more convenience, and stronger trade links.

Benefits for Tourism and Trade

With the expanded flight schedules, tourism operators and exporters across New Zealand will benefit from increased capacity. The additional flights will allow more high-value exports, such as seafood and fresh produce, to be shipped quickly to key Asian markets via Hong Kong’s cargo mega-hub.

Cathay Pacific’s expansion of its services is seen as a direct response to the strong demand for international travel and trade from New Zealand.

Ongoing Growth of Airline Services to New Zealand

Cathay Pacific’s announcement comes amidst similar moves by other airlines. For example, Qantas plans to boost its Tasman flights by 20% this upcoming summer. Meanwhile, Air New Zealand will add 34,000 extra seats to North America and other international destinations.
