Enbridge to Invest $1.2 Billion in Solar Project to Power Meta’s Data Centers
Enbridge Inc., a Calgary-based pipeline company, has announced a significant investment of $1.2 billion (US$900 million) in a 600-megawatt solar project aimed at powering Meta Platforms, Inc.’s data center operations. This investment is part of Enbridge’s ongoing efforts to meet the growing demand for renewable energy across North America.

Clear Fork Solar Project
The Clear Fork solar project is now under construction near San Antonio, Texas. It’s expected to begin operations in the summer of 2027. Once complete, it will supply 100% renewable energy to power Meta’s large data centers, which support platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Meta has signed a long-term contract for the project’s entire energy output. This secures a clean energy source for its operations in Texas. Urvi Parekh, Meta’s head of global energy, shared the company’s excitement and said the project will help Meta run fully on clean energy.
Growing Demand for Renewable Energy
The Clear Fork solar project highlights the growing demand for renewable energy from major companies, especially in tech and data center operations. Matthew Akman, Enbridge’s executive vice president of corporate strategy, said the project responds to strong interest from blue-chip companies.
This solar initiative also strengthens Enbridge’s role in the renewable energy space. As more large companies aim to cut their carbon footprints, projects like Clear Fork show how vital the shift to cleaner energy has become.

A Long-Term Commitment to Clean Energy
Meta’s commitment to 100% renewable energy is part of its larger plan to reach net-zero emissions across all global operations. The Clear Fork solar project in Texas is just one of several efforts Meta is taking to hit its clean energy and sustainability goals.
As demand for sustainable solutions grows, the partnership between Enbridge and Meta marks an important step. It helps reduce the tech industry’s heavy energy use and its impact on the environment.
