Low-Cost Airline ZIPAIR Is Launching Nonstop Flights From Toronto to Tokyo
ZIPAIR Toronto to Tokyo flights are coming in 2027, giving travellers a new low-cost way to fly nonstop to Japan. Toronto Pearson announced that the Japanese budget airline will launch year-round service to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport. Flights will run three times a week. That’s good news for anyone who has wanted to visit Japan but winced at the price of a ticket. The start date and ticket sale date haven’t been announced yet, but here’s what we know so far.
What Is ZIPAIR?
ZIPAIR is a low-cost airline owned by Japan Airlines. It’s based at Narita International Airport, about 60 kilometres east of central Tokyo. The airline flies Boeing 787-8 planes to cities across Asia and North America. These include Seoul, Bangkok, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston and Vancouver.
Toronto will be ZIPAIR’s second Canadian destination. The airline already flies between Vancouver and Tokyo, a route it launched in 2024.
How ZIPAIR Keeps Fares Low
Like most budget airlines, ZIPAIR keeps base fares low by charging separately for extras. Here’s what to expect:
- Included: Carry-on bags up to a combined 7 kilograms
- Extra: Checked bags and in-flight meals
- Free: Onboard Wi-Fi and entertainment you can stream on your own device
- To buy: Snacks, drinks and duty-free items
How It Compares
Right now, Air Canada is the main option for flying nonstop between Toronto and Tokyo. Fares can get pricey, especially during cherry blossom season in late March and early April. For a rough comparison, Curiocity found ZIPAIR’s Vancouver–Tokyo round trips for early March running hundreds of dollars cheaper than Air Canada’s.
When Can You Book ZIPAIR Toronto to Tokyo Flights?
ZIPAIR and Pearson haven’t shared a launch date or when tickets go on sale. Pearson has told travellers to stay tuned. If you’re planning a 2027 trip to Japan, keep an eye on ZIPAIR’s website and Pearson’s social media for updates on ZIPAIR Toronto to Tokyo fares.
