Iconic Canadian Retailer Warehouse One Is Closing All 128 Stores Including Bootlegger
Another classic mall staple is biting the dust across the country. Winnipeg-based retailer Warehouse One plans to liquidate all 128 of its storefronts. This massive closure also includes all Bootlegger retail locations.
The company filed for court protection under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act in Manitoba this week. Executives stated the brand faces an acute liquidity crisis and simply cannot pay rent or staff without intervention. Shoppers looking for cheap warehouse one clothing will soon see massive liquidation sales pop up nationwide.
Massive Job Losses Hit The Canadian Retail Sector
This sudden collapse impacts communities across eight provinces and the Yukon. Monitor Alvarez & Marsal Canada Inc. reports the closures will eliminate 982 jobs. The majority of these workers operate out of shopping malls or third-party leased retail spaces.
Small-town Canada will feel the heaviest blow. Roughly a third of the company’s retail footprint operates in smaller communities where shopping options remain extremely limited. Residents in these towns must now travel further or rely completely on online shopping to buy daily apparel.
Fast Fashion And Inflation Force The Shutdown
A sharp decline in foot traffic and fierce competition from digital fast-fashion giants ultimately crushed the once-profitable denim empire. Director Shamsh Kassam noted that the brand’s aging customer base shrank significantly in recent years. The company suffered a brutal $15 million net loss in its last fiscal year alone.

The current economic climate also played a massive role in the downfall. Retail experts point out that cautious Canadian consumers now flock to off-price retailers like Winners or massive online platforms. Mid-tier mall brands simply cannot compete in this brutal inflationary environment.
Furthermore, a recent business gamble backfired completely. The company purchased casual apparel brand Bootlegger in 2025. This acquisition triggered a 50 per cent cost increase that wiped out any new revenue gains.
What Customers Need To Know Right Now
You need to act fast if you hold any store credit or gift certificates. The Manitoba Court of King’s Bench set a strict deadline for shoppers to redeem their prepaid funds. Recent reports from CBC News indicate the company also owes millions to unsecured creditors and merchandise vendors.
