VIFF 2026 Media Accreditation Closes August 24 Ahead of 45th Festival
Media professionals covering the Vancouver International Film Festival have until August 24 to apply for accreditation ahead of the festival’s 45th edition.
VIFF 2026 will run from October 1 to 11 in Vancouver, bringing 11 days of films, talks, live performances, and industry events to audiences across the city.
The accreditation deadline comes just two days before VIFF officially unveils its 2026 program. For journalists, editors, photographers, broadcasters, and other active media workers planning festival coverage, August 24 is the date to keep in mind.

Applications for VIFF 2026 media accreditation close on August 24, 2026 (Monday) at 5:00 PM (PT). Applicants must be directly and actively involved in covering this year’s festival.
Once an application receives approval, the applicant becomes an official guest of VIFF and is expected to follow through on the coverage plan included with the application.

The accreditation process is aimed at working media who have a clear plan to report on the festival, rather than general film fans or casual attendees.
A Wide-Ranging Festival is Planned
VIFF says its 2026 edition will explore cinema across Canadian and international productions, documentaries, genre films, short-form work, and other screen experiences. The program will feature films from around the world alongside talks, conferences, live performances, and other events.
VIFF’s submission information currently describes a program of 150 features and 90 shorts, while the festival’s broader announcement materials emphasize an expanded mix of cinema and live programming.
The festival will also continue VIFF Live, which connects film with music, comedy, podcasts, and performance. VIFF Talks will offer conversations with filmmakers and other screen professionals about their creative work.
Industry Programs Add Another Layer
VIFF 2026 will include activities through the Institute for the Moving Image. The initiative will connect filmmakers, composers, producers, and industry leaders through artist development programs, networking opportunities, and industry events.
These efforts are focused on creative exchange and supporting the future of screen culture in British Columbia and beyond.
That means the festival will offer more than film screenings. Its wider program will create opportunities for artists and industry professionals to connect, share ideas, and develop new work.
