Flair Airlines Launches Canada’s First Nonstop Flight to Guanajuato, Mexico
Canadian travellers now have a new nonstop option for reaching central Mexico. Flair Airlines launched weekly service from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to Guanajuato International Airport (BJX) on October 3, 2026.

The airline says the route is the first nonstop link from Canada to Guanajuato and the first direct Canada-Bajio connection. For travellers heading to Leon, Guanajuato City or San Miguel de Allende, that means one less connection through a larger hub.
BJX is not a beach airport. It puts travellers in Mexico’s Bajio region, where city breaks, food, architecture, vineyards and cultural sites can shape the itinerary.

A new Canada-to-Bajio route

Flair’s inaugural flight left Vancouver on October 3. The new service runs once a week at launch, giving Western Canadian travellers a direct option for central Mexico.
The weekly schedule is also the main planning constraint. Travellers have fewer date choices than on a daily route, so it helps to check the outbound and return flights before booking hotels or ground transportation.
Flair’s live booking page lists fares by date and notes that displayed prices may change. The airline also says optional products and services can add to the total cost. That makes the live checkout price more useful than the launch fare quoted in the press release.
What BJX puts within reach
Guanajuato International Airport serves several major destinations in the state. Flair names Leon, Guanajuato City and San Miguel de Allende among the main places travellers can reach from BJX.
San Miguel de Allende is likely to be a major draw for leisure trips. Guanajuato’s official tourism site highlights its colonial architecture, plazas, local crafts and gallery scene, and notes its UNESCO World Heritage status since 2008.
Travel + Leisure also named San Miguel de Allende the No. 1 city in the world in its 2026 World’s Best Awards. That recognition adds another reason the new flight could appeal to Canadians planning a culture-focused trip rather than a resort stay.
The airport can work as the starting point for a multi-city itinerary, but ground transfers still matter. Check the drive to your final hotel before paying for non-refundable stays, especially with only one nonstop flight each week.
Search for Leon or BJX when booking
One detail can be confusing in flight searches. Flair’s live page labels the destination as Leon, while the airport is Guanajuato International Airport. The airport code is BJX, so use that code to confirm you have the right route.
That label reflects the airport’s role in serving Leon and the wider Guanajuato region. Travellers continuing to Guanajuato City or San Miguel de Allende still need ground transportation after landing, so factor that transfer into the first and final travel days.
What Toronto travellers should know
This route does not depart from Toronto. The nonstop service starts at Vancouver International Airport, so travellers leaving from the GTA would need to reach YVR first or compare other connecting options to central Mexico.
That extra domestic leg can change the total travel time and cost. If Guanajuato is the main destination, compare the Vancouver connection against one-stop itineraries through other hubs before choosing a fare.
The weekly frequency also gives less flexibility if plans shift. Confirm both directions of the trip, then build hotel and transfer bookings around the actual flight dates.
Before you book
Flair sells the route through its website, with current prices tied to specific travel dates and seat availability. Review the full checkout total and the airline’s reservation terms before paying.
Travellers should also review passport and entry requirements, travel advice, insurance and local transportation before departure. Since BJX serves a wider region, the airport-to-hotel leg may be a meaningful part of the itinerary.
The Vancouver-Guanajuato service is already operating. Check Flair’s current schedule and fare calendar before building the rest of the trip.
