TTC Line 2 Closing Between Kipling and Jane This Thanksgiving Weekend
The TTC Line 2 closure between Kipling and Jane stations runs on Saturday and Sunday of the Thanksgiving weekend for planned infrastructure work. Shuttle buses will replace subway trains along the five-station section. TTC staff will be at affected stations to help riders, and Wheel-Trans service will be available on request. All stations will remain open for PRESTO purchases and connections to surface routes, but one entrance at Royal York Station will close. The closure will affect riders travelling through Etobicoke, especially those connecting to bus routes near the west end.

When the TTC Line 2 Closure Begins
The closure begins after subway service ends on Friday, Oct 9, 2026, and is expected to end at about 6 a.m. on Oct 12, 2026.
There will be no subway service between Kipling, Islington, Royal York, Old Mill and Jane during the closure. Shuttle buses will stop at each of the five closed-section stations.
The TTC recommends allowing more travel time. However, shuttle buses carry fewer people than subway trains and can be delayed by traffic.
What Work Is the TTC Completing?
The TTC says crews will complete several infrastructure projects between Islington and Royal York stations.
Work includes the installation of new communication and signal equipment. Crews will also upgrade electrical connections that provide power to trains and replace power cables at Royal York Station.
Additional security camera cabling will be installed near the storage tracks at Kipling Station. Plus, the TTC says the work is meant to improve train monitoring and reduce the risk of future service problems.
Station Access During the Closure
The Grenview entrance at Royal York Station will be closed. Riders should use another station entrance.
The affected stations will otherwise remain open for customers who need to buy or load a PRESTO card, purchase a PRESTO Ticket or connect with buses.
TTC staff will be available to answer questions. Customers who need accessible service can request Wheel-Trans support.
Another Line 2 Disruption on Thanksgiving Monday
A separate Line 2 closure is planned between St George and Broadview stations on Thanksgiving Monday morning. Shuttle buses will replace trains on that section until 11 a.m.
Bay and Sherbourne stations will be closed during that work. Also, the Yonge Street entrance to Line 2 at Bloor-Yonge Station will be closed. Other affected stations will remain open for surface routes and fare purchases.
The TTC says crews will inspect and replace parts of the Prince Edward Viaduct. So, riders crossing downtown on Monday morning should check their route before leaving.
Thanksgiving Holiday Service
All TTC routes will follow a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Monday. Service will begin earlier than a normal Sunday, at about 6 a.m.
Routes that do not usually operate on Sundays will not run. Before leaving, riders should use the TTC trip planner or a live transit app to confirm their trip.
How Riders Can Prepare
People travelling through Etobicoke should leave extra time for shuttle bus lines and traffic. Walking to a nearby bus route may be faster for some short trips.
Riders can also check whether GO Transit or another TTC route offers a practical alternative. In the end, the best choice will depend on the starting point and destination.
Service plans can change because of work conditions. Check the TTC service advisory before leaving and follow TTC Notices for live updates.
If you ride Line 2 in the west end, plan around the TTC Line 2 closure and give yourself extra travel time this weekend.
