A massive cross-border safety alert has been issued involving major oven recalls, specifically targeting thousands of Frigidaire gas ranges due to a serious—and potentially painful—burn hazard.

Whether you are cooking for your family in Canada or across the border in the United States, it is critical to verify if your model is on the list and take immediate action. Here is everything you need to know to keep your kitchen safe.

What is the Issue with the Recalled Ovens?

According to a joint recall notice posted by Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), certain Frigidaire gas ranges are experiencing a dangerous mechanical defect.

The ovens can suffer from a “delayed ignition” in the bake burner. In simple terms, when you turn the oven on, the gas flows but doesn’t spark right away. When it finally does ignite, it can do so suddenly and forcefully, creating a significant risk of burns or fire to anyone standing nearby.

This hazard is not just theoretical. As of March 2026, Electrolux Group (the manufacturer behind Frigidaire) has received 62 incident reports across North America. This includes three reports and one resulting injury in Canada, alongside 59 reports and 30 injuries in the United States.

I Have a Recalled Oven. What Should I Do Next?

If you discover your oven is on this list, stop using the oven component immediately. However, you don’t need to resort to the microwave or takeout for every meal just yet. The manufacturer has confirmed that the stovetop (cooktop burners) remains completely safe to use while you await repairs.

Here is your safety action plan:

  1. Do not attempt a DIY fix. Delayed gas ignition is a serious hazard that requires a certified, professional technician.
  2. Contact Electrolux Group. They are offering a free, professional in-home installation of a new bake burner to resolve the issue entirely at no cost to you.
  3. Reach out to schedule your repair. Canadian and U.S. consumers can call Electrolux toll-free at 1-866-291-7629 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET) or send an email to gasovenburnerrecall@electrolux.com. You can also visit the official Gas Oven Burner Recall website for more details and to register your appliance for repair.

A Legal Reminder for Canadians and Landlords

If you are a landlord in Ontario or anywhere else in the country, it is your responsibility to ensure any affected appliances in your rental units are repaired immediately to protect your tenants.

Furthermore, under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, it is strictly prohibited to redistribute, sell, or even give away recalled products. Do not attempt to sell a recalled stove on the secondhand market.

Keep Your Home Safe

Appliance recalls can be alarming, but acting quickly ensures your home remains a safe place for your family. Stay informed, take advantage of the free repair, and always register your new home appliances so you can be notified of vital safety updates and oven recalls directly from the manufacturer.
