A tragic event has unfolded in Ontario, as a teenager has died following a Lake Scugog plane crash that occurred midday on Friday. According to Durham Regional Police, the incident involved a small floatplane that crashed into the lake, approximately 93 kilometres northeast of Toronto. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Transport Safety Board (TSB) are now involved in investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.

The crash took place around 12:25 p.m. on Friday when a yellow floatplane attempted to land or fly near the shores of Lake Scugog. As a result, the plane ended up crashing onto a dock, striking a boat in the process. Eyewitness photos from the scene clearly showed the aircraft flipped upside down and partially submerged in water near the lakeshore.

Sadly, a teenage boy who was near the crash site suffered fatal injuries after being struck by the descending aircraft. Despite the quick response by emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pilot and Passenger Sustain Minor Injuries

The pilot and a passenger onboard the floatplane only sustained minor injuries. The pilot was transported to a nearby hospital for precautionary medical treatment. Although authorities have not disclosed the identities of those involved, this is due to privacy concerns pending notifications and further evaluation.

Meanwhile, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada has taken charge of the investigation. Evidently, this highlights the serious nature of the incident and the potential for broader safety reforms going forward.
