Nintendo fans and LEGO collectors, get ready: the LEGO Game Boy set is now available for preorder, and it’s a nostalgia-packed replica of the iconic 1989 handheld console. What’s in the Box?

The LEGO Game Boy set (Product No. 72046) contains:

  • 421 pieces
  • 1:1 scale replica of the original Game Boy
  • Two buildable game cartridges: Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
  • A brick-built display stand for the console and a second stand for the unused cartridge
  • Swappable lenticular screen tiles to simulate game scenes and Nintendo’s start-up logo

The dimensions match the original closely: over 5.5 inches (14 cm) tall, 3.5 inches (9 cm) wide, and 1 inch (3 cm) deep.

Realistic Design, Vintage Vibes

This set is all about visual accuracy and shelf appeal. LEGO recreated:

  • The A, B, Start, and Select buttons
  • The D-pad
  • Volume and contrast dials on the side
  • A removable cartridge slot
  • Authentic printed tiles (no stickers) for added detail

There’s even a fun easter egg serial number on the back, and LEGO has included lenticular screen pieces to simulate motion—like the classic Nintendo logo falling into place.

While it doesn’t light up or make sounds—and you can’t play actual games—it’s designed for display, not play. And with an 18+ age recommendation, LEGO is clearly aiming at adults who remember blowing into cartridges before pressing “Start.”

A Follow-Up to Other Retro Sets

This isn’t LEGO’s first nostalgia trip with Nintendo. Past collabs have included:

  • The LEGO NES set (2020)
  • The SNES-style Mario & Yoshi diorama (2024)
  • Interactive LEGO Mario sets
  • The recent Great Deku Tree from Zelda

Each has proven popular with both adult fans and retro gaming collectors.

Are you adding the LEGO Game Boy to your collection—or is there another retro console you’d like to see turned into bricks next?
