Nvidia CES 2025: New AI Models, RTX 50 Series Chips, and More

· · ·

Nvidia has made headlines at CES 2025 in Las Vegas with a series of groundbreaking announcements. From advancements in robot training technology to new RTX 5000-series gaming chips, and a strategic deal with Toyota, Nvidia continues to push the boundaries of innovation.

Revolutionary AI for Robotics and Autonomous Vehicles

At the event, CEO Jensen Huang introduced Cosmos foundation models, designed to train robots and self-driving cars more efficiently. This technology generates photo-realistic video simulations using synthetic data, eliminating the need for costly real-world data collection. With Cosmos, users can create physics-compliant environments through text descriptions, making training faster and more affordable.

Huang compared Cosmos to Meta’s Llama 3 AI models, which have significantly influenced enterprise AI. The open license for Cosmos ensures broader adoption across industries. However, analysts, including Vivek Arya from Bank of America, remain cautious about its commercial viability, citing challenges in affordability and reliability.

Next-Level Gaming Chips with Blackwell Technology

Nvidia also unveiled its RTX 50-series gaming chips, promising to deliver movie-like graphics for gamers. These chips leverage Nvidia’s Blackwell AI technology, offering advancements in shaders and realistic human facial features. The series includes the RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 Ti, and 5070, with prices ranging from $549 to $1,999.

The chips will enhance graphics by adding lifelike imperfections, such as smudges on surfaces, and will roll out starting January 30, 2025, for high-end models. Ben Bajarin, CEO of Creative Strategies, highlighted the short-term sales boost these chips could bring for Nvidia.

Project DIGITS: Nvidia’s First Desktop Computer

Huang introduced Project DIGITS, Nvidia’s inaugural desktop computer designed for developers. Priced at $3,000, it runs on a Linux-based Nvidia operating system and features a compact design powered by MediaTek processors. This desktop allows individual developers to test AI systems with ease and is set for release in March 2025.

Toyota Partnership for Automotive AI

In a major automotive announcement, Toyota Motor Corporation plans to integrate Nvidia’s Orin chips and operating system into its advanced driver assistance systems. While specific models remain undisclosed, this partnership aims to generate $5 billion in revenue by fiscal 2026, compared to $4 billion expected this year.

RTX 5000-Series: Pricing and Innovation

The RTX 5000 series also took the spotlight at CES. Nvidia revealed pricing for four models:

  • RTX 5090: $1,999, $400 more than the RTX 4090.
  • RTX 5080: $200 less than its predecessor at launch.
  • RTX 5070 Ti and 5070: Both priced lower than comparable RTX 4000 models.

The slimmer design of the RTX 5090’s Founders Edition cooler signals improved compatibility with smaller PC cases, contrasting the bulkier RTX 4090.
