Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem Celebrate Bunker at Toronto’s CineDine

Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem and director Florian Zeller arrived at PUNCH on Sep 14, 2026, for CineDine’s reception marking the Toronto premiere of Bunker. The trio posed beneath the film’s title before joining producers and guests for dinner at the Mercer Street restaurant.
The evening put a quieter frame around one of TIFF’s most closely watched titles: a 126-minute drama that casts Cruz and Bardem as a married couple whose private fractures widen after a morally murky commission.
Inside CineDine’s Bunker reception
Blue Morning Pictures and MOD Producciones, the film’s lead production companies, toasted the TIFF presentation with a private dinner at CineDine. The event gallery lists Redbreast Irish Whiskey, Caviar Bar & Co., Isola Serena Tuscany and Château des Charmes among the reception partners.
Photagonist’s images capture a formal arrival line, the Bunker step-and-repeat and the dining room before guests took their seats. Cruz wore a black lace and leather look under a sharply cut jacket; Bardem paired a relaxed open-collar shirt with a dark blazer, while Zeller chose a black suit and bow tie.
Bunker puts a marriage under pressure
Zeller wrote and directed the film, with Cruz playing Sofia and Bardem playing Miguel. The story turns on Miguel’s decision to design a survivalist bunker for a tech billionaire. The job’s ethical compromises force Sofia to reassess their 17-year marriage as fear, money and power seep into the couple’s home life.
The French-Spanish production also stars Stephen Graham, Paul Dano and Patrick Schwarzenegger. It runs 126 minutes in English and Spanish. La Biennale di Venezia’s official film page credits Blue Morning Pictures, MOD Producciones, Pathé Films, Mediawan and Entourage Pictures as producers.
Zeller’s setup is less about disaster hardware than the pressure it applies to a long partnership. The bunker becomes a test of what Miguel is willing to build for wealth and what Sofia is prepared to accept in the name of stability.

CineDine staged the reception at PUNCH, the restaurant inside Le Germain Hotel Toronto Mercer at 30 Mercer Street. The 91-seat dining room was designed by Block Plan Studios with dark wood panelling, amber leather banquettes and large chandeliers, details that read clearly in the event photographs.
PUNCH’s menu draws on modern London dining and Indian flavours, giving the event a setting that feels polished without turning into a generic hotel ballroom.
