Daniel’s Art Supplies Is Closing in Toronto’s Chinatown After 42 Years
Daniel’s Art Supplies is closing its store in Toronto’s Chinatown after 42 years at its current location. The shop at 414-B Spadina Ave. will stay open until Thursday, Oct. 29, before it leaves the space. Owner Daniel told blogTO that the landlord wants the property back, so there was no chance to save the business. The original closing date was June 1, but he got more time to clear out his stock. Now, all items are on sale at negotiable prices.

Daniel’s Art Supplies Closing Details

- Last day: Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026
- Hours: Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Why the Store Is Closing
The landlord first asked Daniel to stop operations and leave earlier this year, with an original closing date of June 1. He then got more time, but was asked to clear everything out by Oct. 21. After that, he asked for a few more days. “Everything has to go, and it’s a negotiable sale on all items,” Daniel said.
Community Reaction
Toronto residents have been sharing their support on social media. In fact, one former George Brown College worker remembered visiting the shop in the early 1980s. For decades, the store has sold high-end brushes, canvases and letter sets to local artists.
