Disappearance in Downtown Toronto

Kumar, who had moved to Hamilton in April, was last seen in downtown Toronto near Yonge and Dundas streets. He had just begun studying a web design program at Humber College. On the day he went missing, Kumar spoke to his family, mentioning how much he was enjoying his course. His uncle, Akshay Yadav, said, “He was happy and had no problems.”

The Search and Discovery

Kumar’s roommates initially thought he might have returned to his room to rest. However, when they realized he was missing, they reported it to the police on May 20. Ten days later, on May 26, police found his body. Though the investigation is still open, authorities have stated that the case “does not appear to be a criminal matter,” without offering further details.

Questions Without Answers

Kumar’s family, though, has raised concerns. They were told that his body was found in the water, but they’re puzzled as to why he would go to the beach. “We kept asking, ‘Why would he go to the beach? What happened?’ But we’ve gotten no clear answers,” Yadav said.

Lack of Information and Powerlessness

With limited resources and no connections in Canada, Kumar’s family feels helpless in their search for more answers. “It feels like an injustice was done to us,” said Yadav. The family has also reached out to other international student families, discovering other troubling cases of missing students. Yadav noted similarities between Kumar’s death and those of other young international students found in water under unclear circumstances.

Ongoing Investigations and Concerns

As the investigation continues, Kumar’s family remains hopeful for more clarity, while expressing concern about a possible pattern in these troubling cases. The family of another international student, Vedatman Poduval, recently shared similar experiences after Poduval’s disappearance and death in Ottawa.

Both Toronto and Ottawa police have been contacted, but no response was provided about whether they are investigating any potential connections between these cases.
