Several food products have been recalled in Canada over the past week due to concerns ranging from salmonella contamination to undeclared allergens. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued warnings about the affected items, urging consumers to check their purchases. Here’s a breakdown of the foods recalled in Canada and what you should do if you have any of these products at home.

1. Century Brand Flaked Light Tuna (Hot & Spicy)

One of the most significant recalls involves Century brand Flaked Light Tuna in Hot & Spicy Sauce due to undeclared wheat. The recall includes multiple variations of the product:

  • Flaked Light Tuna in Hot & Spicy Sauce
  • Flaked Light Tuna Hot & Spicy Style
  • Light Tuna Flakes Hot & Spicy Style
  • Tuna Value Pack of Flakes in Oil (Hot & Spicy)

These products, sold at Walmart, Metro, Food Basics, Sobeys, Freshco, Foodland, Amazon Canada, and more, pose a risk for people with gluten intolerance, celiac disease, or wheat allergies. No illnesses have been reported, but consumers are advised to discard or return the product.

2. Al-Watan Brand Tahini (Ontario Only)

Al-Watan brand tahini, sold in Ontario by Naz’s Falafel House Inc. and Mawasem Trading Inc., was recalled due to possible salmonella contamination. All “PRO” dates up to and including August 2024 are affected.

What to do: If you have this product, do not consume it. Instead, return it to the store or throw it away. Although no illnesses have been reported, salmonella can cause serious infections, especially in young children, seniors, and those with weakened immune systems.

This national recall involves strawberry carrot bars (best-before dates Aug. 30 & 31, 2025) and blueberry beet spinach bars (best-before dates Sept. 5, 6 & 10, 2025). These products were recalled due to the presence of yeast, which may cause quality issues or spoilage. However, the CFIA clarified that the contamination is not harmful.

What to do: While this recall is not due to allergens, consumers should still dispose of or return the affected products.
