Toronto Police Shooting 2025: Teen Killed in North York Traffic Stop
A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed by Toronto police during a late-night traffic stop in North York, marking it a high-profile Toronto police shooting. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) confirmed the teen died Tuesday after what they described as an exchange of gunfire with officers. Bodycam footage, multiple arrests, and a recovered firearm are now central to the ongoing investigation.

What Happened?
Around 11 p.m. on April 20, Toronto police pulled over an Infiniti near Sheppard Avenue West and Bathurst Street for a traffic infraction — a missing front licence plate. During the stop, the situation escalated quickly.
According to the SIU, the teen allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot at officers. In response, two officers returned fire, hitting the boy. He was taken to hospital, where he died on Tuesday morning.
