Meet the New Harry, Ron, and Hermione in HBO’s Harry Potter Series
The magic is back—and this time with fresh faces. HBO has officially cast the three young leads for its upcoming Harry Potter series, confirming that Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Alastair Stout will portray Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton will take on the role of Hermione Granger.

The casting comes after an open call that saw over 30,000 auditions from children across the U.K. The series is billed as a faithful, decade-long adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved seven-book saga.
Who Are the New Stars of Hogwarts?
All three actors are newcomers to the international spotlight:
- Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter) recently worked on Grow, a Sky comedy series starring Nick Frost.
- Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger) earned acclaim in London’s West End playing Matilda in Matilda: The Musical.
- Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley) makes his screen debut with this series.
In a joint statement, executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod said, “We are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”
Who Else Is in the Cast of the Harry Potter Series?
HBO had already announced a powerhouse adult cast, including:

- John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore
- Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape
- Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall
- Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid
- Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell
- Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch
Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials) will write and showrun the show, while Mark Mylod will direct it, with Warner Bros. Television and Brontë Film and TV producing.
What to Expect From the Series
HBO promises a “faithful adaptation” of Rowling’s books, with one season per novel. The series aims to honor the source material with more time to explore storylines and characters than the films ever could.
The original Harry Potter films turned Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint into household names. Now, McLaughlin, Stanton, and Stout will follow in their footsteps and introduce a new generation to the Wizarding World.
HBO Max, now rebranded, plans to premiere the series in 2026.
