McDavid’s Magic Moment

As Dallas clawed back from an early 3–0 deficit, Connor McDavid stepped up—again. With just over five minutes left in the second period, he snagged a lucky bounce, broke away, and pulled off a slick forehand deke past Stars goalie Casey DeSmith, giving the Oilers a 4–2 lead and killing Dallas’ momentum.

“There’s only one player in the world that can do that,” said Leon Draisaitl, who assisted on the play. “That’s a big-time goal in a big-time moment.”

McDavid also added an assist in the game, reaching 100 career playoff points—the second-fastest to do so behind Wayne Gretzky. He now has three separate postseasons with 20+ assists, matching Gretzky again.

The Oilers will meet the Florida Panthers in the Final—a rematch of last year’s heartbreak, where Edmonton lost in Game 7 after an epic comeback. But this team feels different.

“We’re better,” McDavid said. “Last year’s loss pushed us. This run has felt different.”

Head coach Kris Knoblauch, who coached McDavid back in junior hockey, added: “Connor relieves so much pressure in those moments. He’s built for this.”

Moss Pit Evacuated Mid-Game

In Edmonton, fans packed the Moss Pit to cheer on their team, but celebrations paused when a severe thunderstorm warning forced fans indoors. Organizers quickly moved everyone inside Rogers Place, where the game continued on screens in Ford Hall.

What’s Next?

The Stanley Cup Final kicks off Wednesday in Edmonton, with the Oilers looking to lift the Cup for the first time since 1990. If McDavid continues his dominance, this might finally be the year.
