Her mother and sister discovered the young royal family member on July 14, 2025, shortly after she had been packing for a trip with friends. The Wiltshire and Swindon coroner’s court opened an inquest, which it has now adjourned until October 25, 2025.

Police Deem Death Non-Suspicious

Area coroner Grant Davies stated that police have classified Rosie Roche’s death as non-suspicious, with no third-party involvement suspected. The coroner’s office has not released any further official cause of death at this stage.

The firearm, reportedly found near Roche, is under examination, but investigators are not treating the incident as a criminal matter.

A Life Cut Short

Rosie Roche had been a student of English Literature at Durham University, and by all accounts, had a promising future. A spokesperson for her university community said she “will be sorely missed.” An obituary published in the Yorkshire Post described her as a “darling daughter of Hugh and Pippa, incredible sister to Archie and Agatha, and cherished granddaughter to Derek and Rae Long.”

The obituary also noted that a private family funeral will be held, with a memorial service planned for a later date.

Another Loss in the Royal Circle

Rosie’s death comes just over a year after the passing of Thomas Kingston, husband to Lady Gabriella Kingston, another member of the extended royal family. Kingston died in February 2024 at age 45, also from a gunshot wound. A coroner later ruled his death a result of an “impulsive act.”

Both deaths have cast a shadow over the royal family, reminding many of the personal challenges and tragedies faced even by those in the public eye.

Silence from Royal Family Representatives

At the time of reporting, Prince William’s office declined to comment, and there has been no official statement from Prince Harry or Buckingham Palace. The family continues to mourn privately as public interest around the story grows.
