Air Canada Brings Lie Flat Seats To Smaller Jets Flying Out Of Toronto
Air Canada just secured a major win for tired travelers flying out of Toronto Pearson. The airline officially received its very first Airbus A321XLR to kickstart a massive fleet upgrade. Travelers looking for premium comfort without booking massive wide-body jets will soon get their wish as air canada introduces lie flat seats on new single aisle aircraft.

The Airbus A321XLR Promises Next Level Comfort
Air Canada plans to integrate 30 of these next-generation Airbus A321XLR planes into its fleet over the coming years. The standout feature includes 14 Signature Class seats capable of reclining 180 degrees into fully horizontal beds. Every premium passenger gets direct aisle access in a spacious 1-1 configuration.
Beyond the beds, the new “Glowing Hearted” cabin design brings serious upgrades to the entire plane. The airline promises a significantly quieter ride, larger overhead bins, and personal device power at every single seat.
Passengers flying on these new jets will also enjoy:
- Fast, free Wi-Fi for all Aeroplan members.
- Next-generation 4K OLED screens equipped with Bluetooth audio.
- An ambient lighting system designed specifically to mitigate jet lag.
- A beautifully backlit canopy of maple leaves welcoming travelers upon boarding.
Air Canada Pulls Ahead While Competitors Scramble
This premium move stands in stark contrast to other recent airline seating strategies. In late 2025, WestJet faced massive blowback after attempting to remove legroom and install non-reclining seats on 43 of its Boeing 737s. While the Calgary-based airline actually managed to retrofit 22 planes with the cramped, non-reclining layout, the public and crew outcry was so severe that they completely reversed course in January 2026. WestJet is now actively sending those 22 planes back to the shop to remove the extra row of seats and restore standard legroom.

Meanwhile, other international carriers are finding unique ways to maximize space for economy flyers. Air New Zealand recently made headlines by launching bunk beds for economy passengers. Their upcoming “Economy Skynest” will feature a mattress, privacy curtain, and charging ports on flights between New York and Auckland.
When Can You Book These Upgraded Flights?
The new single-aisle jets will soon deploy on key North American transcontinental routes and transatlantic flights leaving directly from Toronto and Montreal. According to an official Air Canada press release, the impressive fuel efficiency and extended range allow the airline to operate non-stop flights to destinations like Berlin, Toulouse, and Edinburgh.
The company expects to roll the A321XLR into its regular schedule progressively following Transport Canada certification. Expect these game-changing planes to become a staple for GTA travelers looking to cross the pond in ultimate comfort.
