Toronto Crushes the 2026 Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants List While Niagara Takes Gold

· · · ·

The culinary experts have spoken. The highly anticipated 2026 Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants list officially dropped today, and the GTA heavily dominated the rankings.

Toronto completely flexed its culinary muscles this year. A staggering 23 local spots made the cut, capturing nearly a quarter of the entire national ranking.

While the city claims the highest volume of winners, a familiar Niagara gem secured the ultimate national bragging rights.

Pearl Morissette Claims the Number One Spot

Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants magazine awarded Restaurant Pearl Morissette the coveted top rank for the second year in a row.

Located just 15 minutes west of St. Catharines in Jordan Station, this two-Michelin-star powerhouse relies heavily on a hyper-local approach. Chefs Daniel Hadida and Eric Robertson pull seasonal bounties straight from their on-site 42-acre farm, bakery, and winery.

“We were able to take the joy and be proud, especially now with a newfound sense of nationalism,” Hadida noted ahead of the announcement. He explained that managing the massive influx of attention requires intense focus to protect the team from burnout.

Instead of cramming more tables into the room, the owners actually reduced their nightly dining covers from 62 to 56 to alleviate kitchen stress. Diners looking for a more accessible bite can always visit the on-site RPM Bakehouse for incredible farm-to-table sandwiches featuring wild leeks and fresh goat cheese.

Toronto Heavyweights Dominate the Top Ten

Toronto fine-dining staples firmly hold their ground at the very top of the prestigious list.

Quetzal leads the local pack, jumping up to grab the fourth place spot nationwide. Known for its mesmerizing wood-fire hearths, this College Street favourite consistently delivers incredible, Michelin-recognized Mexican cuisine.

Edulis closely follows at number five, celebrating an incredible 11th consecutive year in the top tier. Rounding out the elite top ten, Alo secures seventh place, and Restaurant 20 Victoria takes the tenth slot.

Jacob Richler, editor-in-chief of the publication, praised these elite kitchens. “The top five restaurants, by any international standards, are completely exceptional and are very disciplined,” Richler stated.

Fresh Faces Shake Up the GTA Dining Scene

Four brand-new Toronto establishments broke onto the definitive list this year.

Chef Eric Chong and Alvin Leung’s new Asian fine-dining concept, aKin, debuted strong at number 27. Meanwhile, Sammarco brings an elevated Italian steakhouse experience to Front Street, landing at number 37.

Diners can also find fresh, master-level artistry at DaNico (38th place) and exceptional late-night bites at Bar Eugenie in Harbord Village (86th place).
