Exhibition Place Marks 20 Years of Ghost Walks With a New After-Hours Investigation

Exhibition Place is opening parts of its west-end grounds after dark this October for the 20th anniversary of its Ghost Walks. The 2026 program pairs the familiar guided heritage tour with a new, smaller-group paranormal investigation inside Stanley Barracks.

The two options are built for different levels of commitment. The classic walk costs $15 and runs for two hours on Friday evenings. Alone in the Dark costs $54.99, is restricted to guests 16 and older, and focuses on an after-hours investigation rather than a conventional guided tour.

Two ways to explore Exhibition Place after dark

The anniversary program splits into two experiences: a guided walk through multiple heritage sites and a separate investigation centred on Stanley Barracks. Exhibition Place’s official 20th-anniversary page lists the current schedules, prices and booking links for both.

The classic Ghost Walk opens rarely seen sites

Ghost Walks: Hidden Histories After Dark follows an expert guide through the grounds and into locations that are not usually part of a standard visit. Exhibition Place says the route includes Scadding Cabin, identified by the venue as Toronto’s oldest surviving building, and the Horse Palace.

Tours are scheduled for Fridays from October 9 to 30, 2026, from 7 to 9 p.m. They begin at the General Services Building, 2 Manitoba Drive. Tickets are $15 per person, and the proceeds go to United Way.

At $15, it is the lower-cost option for visitors interested in the site’s history as much as its ghost stories. It is also the only anniversary program that moves through several Exhibition Place buildings.

Alone in the Dark goes inside Stanley Barracks

The new Alone in the Dark experience narrows the setting to Stanley Barracks at 115 Princes’ Boulevard. Exhibition Place and Hotel X Toronto present the program with The Haunted Walk, giving small groups after-hours access to investigate the historic building.

Rather than following a guide through a fixed route, participants focus on the barracks and its reported paranormal activity. The official listing describes the experience as an investigation, with 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. start times between October 16 and 31. Tickets are $54.99, and admission is limited to guests 16 and older.

Planning the visit

The two meeting points are both on the Exhibition Place grounds but are not the same. The classic walk begins at the General Services Building, while Alone in the Dark takes place at Stanley Barracks. Leave time to find the correct entrance, especially for the later investigation slot.

Because the classic program moves between heritage sites, comfortable footwear is the practical choice. Exhibition Place has not published a detailed accessibility note for the anniversary route on the main event page, so guests with mobility or access questions should contact the venue before booking. For Alone in the Dark, review the ticket provider’s current participation rules, arrival instructions and cancellation policy.

The anniversary lands in the middle of Toronto’s busiest Halloween stretch, but the two experiences take different approaches: one uses staff stories and site history to frame the grounds; the other concentrates on a controlled, after-hours investigation inside a single building. Pick the format that matches the kind of night you want, then book the specific time slot directly from the organizer.
