Tapow Toronto Is Back in Business on Queen West After a Two-Year Break
Tapow Toronto is back in business, now serving its Malaysian Hokkien Mee from the patio of Bar Dystopia at 1704 Queen St. W. in Parkdale. Cook Vei Chong first ran the micro noodle shop out of the back kitchen of Kensington Market’s Dipped Donuts in 2024. However, that partnership ended after about a month. For nearly two years, Chong ran Tapow as an occasional pop-up. Now, he serves his noodles from Thursday to Saturday, with takeout on Saturdays.

Tapow Toronto Details
- Location: Patio of Bar Dystopia, 1704 Queen St. W., Toronto
- Days: Thursday to Saturday
- Takeout: Saturdays, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

One Dish, Done Well
Tapow serves a single menu item: Malaysian Hokkien Mee. Chong perfected the dish over years of working at street food stalls and fine dining restaurants in Singapore, Malaysia, Montreal and Toronto. He still runs the business on his own, from taking orders to cooking.
From Pop-Ups to a New Home
After leaving Dipped Donuts, Chong served his noodles at pop-ups, including University of Toronto frosh events and Baldwin Village’s Tiger Den. Now, the Bar Dystopia patio is Tapow’s regular home.
