The trailer opens with Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) and Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) learning they’re expecting a baby. Cue all the feelings, plus a few uneasy looks. Between prepping for parenthood and saving the planet, things are complicated.

But don’t worry—Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) seems thrilled to become an uncle. Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), aka The Thing, stands rock-solid beside his team.

Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer Glides In

Fans finally get a look at Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer. Her entrance is sleek and ominous as she warns Earth’s heroes:
“Your planet is now marked for death.”

She serves as the Herald of Galactus, whose presence looms large—literally. The trailer ends with Galactus’ massive feet stomping through a city skyline.

A Visual Throwback with a Modern Edge

Set in an alternate 1960s reality, the film leans hard into retrofuturism. Think flying cars, bubble domes, and colorful control panels. Director Matt Shakman calls it “where Kirby meets Kubrick”, paying tribute to Marvel legend Jack Kirby and filmmaker Stanley Kubrick.

This version of the Fantastic Four isn’t trying to fit into modern times. Instead, it honors the classic dynamic that made them iconic: a real family navigating cosmic chaos and emotional tension.

No Doctor Doom? No Problem

Unlike past versions, First Steps skips over the typical origin story and doesn’t include Doctor Doom. Instead, it leans into something bigger—literally. Galactus takes center stage, portrayed in full armor by Ralph Ineson.

Shakman explains:

“We’re doing neither [origin story nor Doom], and that allows us to look at them from a fresh perspective.”

What’s Next?

This film marks the 37th entry in the MCU but stands apart. It’s not on the same Earth as Iron Man or Avengers. It’s a new world, a new tone, and a new chapter for Marvel’s First Family.
