Canadians Might Not Get Carbon Tax Rebate This Week
The final carbon tax rebate payment will be issued on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, but some Canadians might not see it in their bank accounts immediately. This is the last time the Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR) will be issued, as the program comes to an end with Prime Minister Mark Carney’s decision to scrap the consumer carbon price earlier this year.

What You Need to Know About the Final Payment
In March 2025, the Canadian government announced the removal of the fuel charge from its carbon pollution pricing system. This also included the end of the Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR), which helps eligible individuals and families offset the costs associated with federal pollution pricing.
The final CCR payment will go out on April 22, 2025, but only to those who filed their 2024 income tax and benefit returns electronically by April 2. If you haven’t filed your taxes yet, you’ll still receive the rebate, but only after the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has assessed your 2024 tax return.
Who’s Eligible for the Final CCR Payment?
To be eligible for the CCR, you must be:
- A resident of Canada in the month before the payment.
- Living in one of the provinces where the federal carbon pricing applies (Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan).
- At least 19 years old in the month preceding the payment.
If you’re under 19, you can still qualify if you:
- Have a spouse or common-law partner.
- Are a parent living with your child.
Additionally, if you are registered for the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) or the GST credit, you may receive a credit for each eligible child.
How Much Will You Get?
The amount varies by province, and the final CCR payment will be as follows for single individuals with no children:
- $225 in Alberta
- $150 in Manitoba
- $140 in Ontario
- $188 in Saskatchewan
- $95 in New Brunswick
- $103 in Nova Scotia
- $110 in Prince Edward Island
- $149 in Newfoundland and Labrador
In addition to the base amount, residents of rural and small communities in some provinces will receive a 20% supplement. This includes people in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia who live outside Census Metropolitan Areas (CMA).

What if You Don’t Get the Payment?
If you’ve filed your taxes electronically by April 2 and you don’t receive your rebate by May 6, you should check the status of your payment via your CRA My Account. The CRA advises that they cannot provide any other information about the payments before May 6, 2025.
This is the last CCR payment for eligible Canadians as part of the federal carbon pricing program. If you meet the eligibility criteria, don’t miss out on this final chance to receive the rebate. For more information, visit the CRA’s website.
