Born on January 12, 1942, in Ireland, Weston became one of Canada’s most distinguished public figures. As the eldest of five children, she worked as a fashion model in her early years to support her widowed mother and siblings.

In the 1970s, Weston moved to Toronto after marrying Galen Weston Sr., a prominent businessman. Together, they became one of Canada’s wealthiest families, notably linked to the Loblaw grocery chain.

Weston’s career in fashion flourished when she joined Holt Renfrew, Brown Thomas & Co., and Selfridges Group. Her work made a significant impact in luxury retail. Beyond her business career, she co-authored two books on homes and gardens, reflecting her broad range of interests.

Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario and Her Dedication to Women, Youth, and Volunteerism

In 1997, then-premier Mike Harris appointed Weston as Ontario’s lieutenant-governor. She served in this prestigious role until 2002, focusing her efforts on recognizing the contributions of volunteers, women, and youth in the community. She committed to highlighting the importance of public service and volunteerism during her time in office.
