OLG Giving Away $1 Million for Free to Celebrate 50 Years – Here’s How to Enter
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) is marking its 50th anniversary with a massive giveaway, offering a free chance for Ontarians to win $1 million. This is not a drill from your local bodega; it’s a real opportunity with no purchase required.
The celebration, named the “Welcome to Wintario Contest,” is OLG’s way of thanking the people who have participated in its games over the last five decades.
“This is more than a contest — it’s a celebration of the players who have made the last 50 years possible,” said Duncan Hannay, President and CEO of OLG. He highlighted that 100 percent of OLG profits support provincial initiatives.
What’s Up for Grabs?
The contest features one grand prize of a cool $1 million. If you miss out on the top prize, don’t worry. There are also 50 secondary prizes of $1,000 each. Again, entering costs you nothing.
How to Get Your Entry
Entering the contest is straightforward.
The contest is open now and runs until October 19, 2025. To participate, you must be an Ontario resident and 18 years of age or older. You will need to sign up for or log into a Winner’s Edge account on the OLG website. Keep in mind there’s a limit of one entry per person.
50 Years of Giving Back
Since starting in 1975, OLG has become a major contributor to the province. The corporation reports it has given back approximately $62 billion to Ontario. These funds help support health care, amateur sports, and local charities. Over the same period, OLG has awarded more than $59 billion in lottery prizes.
This free contest follows another anniversary event. On August 14, OLG held a special one-night-only “Wintario50” draw, which offered 100 guaranteed jackpots of $50,000. The revival of the Wintario name connects back to OLG’s very first lottery game.
