Jose Berrios will pitch on Opening Day for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2025, earning the honor for the third year in a row with the team and fifth overall in his big league career. Manager John Schneider also praised Berríos as a “model of consistency,” attributing it to his strong work ethic and dedication. Since 2018, Berríos has started 32 games per year, aside from the shortened 2020 season.

On March 27, he will start the Blue Jays’ season opener at Rogers Centre against the Baltimore Orioles. This opening puts him in exalted company, as only Jimmy Key, Dave Stieb, and Roy Halladay have opened at least three Opening Day games for the team.

During spring training, Berríos has had good showings, amassing a 2.35 ERA in 15.1 innings and striking out 13 hitters. Commenting on his preparation, he stated, “I always take pride in my job. I work hard every day to try to stay healthy and durable and also do well.”
