The CFIA posted the recall on May 8, 2025, after a similar one in another country. It affects two package sizes of the product. Although no illnesses have been reported in Canada so far, the CFIA warns the risk remains serious—especially for children, seniors, pregnant individuals, and people with weakened immune systems.

Recalled Products

The affected pumpkin seeds were sold across Canada and include:

  • Organic Traditions Jumbo Pumpkin Seeds (227 g)
    • UPC: 6 27733 00175 5
    • Lot Codes: L250212160 and L250319170
  • Organic Traditions Jumbo Pumpkin Seeds (454 g)
    • UPC: 6 27733 00180 9
    • Lot Code: L250319171

Why the Recall?

The CFIA warns that Salmonella can contaminate food without changing its appearance or smell. Consuming it can cause serious symptoms such as:

  • Fever
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Diarrhea

In some cases, long-term effects like severe arthritis may develop. The recall is part of an ongoing food safety investigation, and officials are actively ensuring that stores remove the affected products.

What You Should Do If You Bought Jumbo Pumpkin Seeds

If you have any of the recalled pumpkin seeds:

  • Do not consume, sell, or serve them
  • Dispose of them properly, or
  • Return them to the place of purchase

If you suspect you’ve become sick after eating these seeds, contact your healthcare provider right away.

Advantage Health Matters distributed the recalled products, and Health Canada and the CFIA are closely monitoring the situation.
