Tragic Lambton College Shooting Leaves One Dead and Two Injured in Sarnia

A late-night student event turned into a tragedy early Friday morning after a Lambton College shooting left one person dead and two others injured.

The incident, which took place at the Sarnia campus, has prompted an active homicide investigation and the immediate closure of the college as the community reels from the shock.

Sarnia Police Launch Homicide Investigation

According to the Sarnia Police Service media release, officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Lions Den pub, located on the Lambton College campus, just before 1:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026.

First responders arrived to find three people suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency responders rushed a 20-year-old Sarnia man with life-threatening injuries to Bluewater Health for emergency treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts, medical staff pronounced him dead. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims.

Two other individuals were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police haven’t arrested any suspects as of Friday morning. Authorities expect a heavy campus presence for some time. Investigators found no evidence of targeted intent toward the college or crowd. They also see no signs of political motivation.

Lambton College Cancels Classes and Offers Support

The gunfire broke out during a student administrative council event. In response to the violence, Lambton College announced the immediate closure of its main campus and all associated facilities, including the Skilled Trades Training Centre, the fire school, and the EarlyON Child and Family Centre. All classes and on-campus activities are cancelled for Friday.

n response, the college released a statement prioritizing the safety of its students and staff, calling the incident a ‘shocking and saddening event.’ Consequently, to help students navigate this tragedy, the school is directing individuals to utilize the mental health and counselling resources available through the MyLambton student portal.

A Community in Mourning

This marks the second homicide of 2026 in Lambton County, and the tragedy is being felt deeply across the city. Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley expressed his condolences on social media, emphasizing the city’s support for everyone affected at the college.

This recent violence also reopens fresh wounds for the local community. As reported by CBC News, this is the second homicide connected to the Lambton College student body in the past 16 months, following the fatal stabbing of an international student at an off-campus residence in December 2024.
