LG Recalls Over 130,000 Electric Stoves in Canada Due to Fire Hazard

· · ·

LG Electronics Canada, in collaboration with Health Canada, has recalled more than 130,000 electric stoves due to a fire risk. The recall affects specific LG slide-in and freestanding electric ranges sold between 2016 and June 2024. The issue stems from the front-mounted knobs, which can be unintentionally activated by people or pets, posing a fire hazard.

Reported Incidents and Risks

As of February 12, LG reported eight incidents in Canada related to the faulty knobs, including two minor injuries—a burn and a cut. In the U.S., over 86 similar incidents have been reported, with eight minor injuries and five fires resulting in $340,000 in property damage. Three of these fires led to pet fatalities.

Identifying the Recalled Models

Affected models have five surface elements and front-mounted control knobs. They come in black or stainless steel and measure 30 inches in width. Consumers can locate the model and serial numbers inside the oven door or storage drawer at the bottom of the unit. A full list of affected models is available on LG Electronics Inc.’s website and Health Canada’s recall advisory page.

Steps for Consumers

If you own an affected model, LG advises the following:

  • Contact LG Electronics Canada at 1-888-542-2623 or via email at lgrangesupport@lge.com to confirm your appliance’s recall status.
  • Request a free warning label and follow the provided placement instructions.
  • Continue using the range while awaiting instructions but exercise caution.
  • Use the Lock Out/Control Lock function to disable heating elements when not in use.
  • Keep the stovetop clear to prevent accidental activation.
  • Regularly check that all knobs are in the ‘off’ position, especially before leaving the house or going to bed.

In addition to Canada, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has reported that approximately 500,000 affected models were sold in the U.S. between 2015 and January 2025. This widespread issue raises concerns for consumers on both sides of the border.

LG and Health Canada urge consumers to take immediate action if they own a recalled stove. Ensuring proper precautions can prevent accidental activation and reduce fire hazards. For more information, visit Health Canada’s recalls website or LG Electronics Canada’s official recall notice.
