Lindsay Lohan Is Back in Toronto Filming a New Netflix Movie With Her Mean Girls Director
Lindsay Lohan’s new Netflix movie, Return to You, is filming in Toronto, and it reunites her with the director behind Mean Girls. Mark Waters is directing the romance, which also stars Henry Golding. Cameras started rolling in the city on September 28, and the shoot is listed to run until November 10. Lohan has already been spotted on set, filming outside an office building on October 1. It’s the first feature she and Waters have made together since Freaky Friday in 2003 and Mean Girls in 2004.

What Is Return to You About?
The movie is set in 2008. Lohan plays a powerful but lonely attorney who accidentally receives an emotional DVD that a dying woman recorded for her husband. Using only the clues on the disc, she sets out to find him, and Golding plays the husband she’s looking for.
Eric Champnella wrote the script. Lohan is also producing alongside Brad Krevoy, who produced her earlier Netflix films Falling for Christmas and Irish Wish. Olivia Krevoy, Jimmy Townsend and Galen Fletcher are executive producers.

A Mean Girls Reunion 22 Years Later
Waters directed two of Lohan’s biggest early hits, Freaky Friday and Mean Girls. He didn’t return for the 2025 sequel Freakier Friday, which Nisha Ganatra directed, so Return to You is the first time the two have worked on a feature together in more than two decades.
Both already have a track record with Netflix. Waters directed He’s All That, Mother of the Bride and La Dolce Villa for the streamer, while Lohan starred in Falling for Christmas, Irish Wish and Our Little Secret. Golding is best known for Crazy Rich Asians, Last Christmas and The Gentlemen.
Filming in Toronto This Fall
Netflix announced the movie on September 28 with a photo of Lohan holding the script, the same day production began. According to Hollywood North Buzz’s production list, Toronto filming runs from September 28 to November 10, 2026. If you’re downtown over the next few weeks, you might spot film trucks and set signs around the city.
It’s a bit of a full-circle moment for the city, too. Mean Girls was shot around Toronto, with school scenes filmed at Etobicoke Collegiate Institute and Malvern Collegiate Institute, according to NOW Toronto.
When Will Return to You Be on Netflix?
Netflix hasn’t announced a release date yet. With filming wrapping in November, we’ll update this story once the streamer shares a premiere date or first look.
