Man Dead, Woman Injured in Targeted Shooting in Urbainville, P.E.I.

A man is dead and a woman seriously injured after a targeted shooting in the Urbainville area of western Prince Edward Island on the evening of August 8, 2025. The shooting happened around 8:00 p.m. when shots were fired into a vehicle. The vehicle then crashed into a ditch and hit a telephone pole.

Incident Details

RCMP responded to Hackmatack Road (Route 125) after reports of gunfire. Officers found a 2008 Toyota Corolla that had crashed. Emergency responders pronounced the driver, a man believed to be behind the wheel, dead at the scene. They transported a 50-year-old woman from Summerside to Prince County Hospital with serious injuries.

At this time, it is unclear whether the woman’s injuries resulted from the shooting or the crash. The RCMP confirmed the incident was targeted and isolated to that location, noting no need for a public Alert Ready message.

Police Response

The RCMP Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation, with help from Island EMS, the Wellington Fire Department, and the RCMP Forensic Investigative Section. Roads in the area, including Route 124 and Route 125, were temporarily closed, and detours were set up until the investigation began.

The RCMP has not released the identities of the victims or detailed the nature of the injuries. However, they are urging anyone with information to come forward.
