No, Andy Byron Hasn’t Apologized: Fake Statement Adds Fuel to Viral Coldplay Scandal

· · ·

The Coldplay concert clip featuring Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR head Kristin Cabot continues to dominate online chatter. But while the viral embrace between the two execs drew immediate backlash, the internet’s response has since taken a turn toward misinformation — including a fake apology statement attributed to Byron that’s been viewed millions of times.

Photo via Video still from TikTok – Andy Byron, CEO of unicorn startup Astronomer, is at the center of controversy following a video with his chief people officer, Kristin Cabot, that sparked affair rumors.

The video, captured at Coldplay’s show in Foxborough, Massachusetts, shows Byron with his arms around Cabot as the pair appear on the venue’s big screen. Both reacted nervously once spotted, pulling apart as frontman Chris Martin joked, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.” The clip now has more than 34 million views on TikTok alone.

Fake Apology Goes Viral

Soon after the video began circulating, a screenshot of a supposed public apology from Byron spread widely on X. The message included language such as, “I want to sincerely apologize to my wife, my family, and the team at Astronomer,” and referenced Coldplay lyrics in its conclusion.

The post was shared over 3.5 million times — but it’s entirely fabricated. X’s Community Notes confirmed the account responsible was a parody. Despite its tone and structure mimicking real corporate apologies, the statement is not official, and Astronomer has not released any comment.

A second fake post pretending to be from Coldplay’s account also gained traction. It read: “Starting with our next show, we’re introducing camera-free audience sections for people and their sidepieces.” That post, too, was satire.

Silence From the Company, Noise From the Internet

Astronomer, the New York-based data-operations startup, has not issued any formal statement regarding the video or the individuals involved. Repeated media requests have gone unanswered. In the absence of an official response, users across social media platforms have filled the gap with memes, jokes, and false narratives.

Critics have noted that Byron’s perceived reluctance to address the incident directly may be allowing the online frenzy to grow unchecked.

Who Is Andy Byron?

According to public records and his LinkedIn profile, Andy Byron became CEO of Astronomer in July 2023. Before that, he held leadership roles at Lacework, Cybereason, and Fuze. He lives in Northborough, Massachusetts, with his wife, Megan Kerrigan, and their two children.

Astronomer, meanwhile, is known for its Astro platform and achieved unicorn status in 2022 with a valuation exceeding $1 billion.
