Samsung TV Outage Frustrates Users Globally: Apps and Smart Features Temporarily Down
Samsung smart TV users across the globe faced a major disruption on August 1 as streaming apps and smart features became completely inaccessible. The issue stemmed from a widespread outage linked to Samsung’s Smart Hub servers, which affected connectivity to essential services like Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu.

Global Outage Hits Streaming Apps
According to data from DownDetector, the service failure spiked late Thursday, with thousands of users reporting issues. About 78% of complaints were related to app access, while others faced login problems or website errors.
Many affected users said their Samsung TVs got stuck on the Terms and Conditions screen, displaying “server certificate error” messages. Some even performed factory resets, only to lose any limited functionality they still had.
“I completely reset my TV. At least I had Netflix before I messed things up even more,” one user posted online.
Widespread Impact Beyond the U.S.
Although the outage initially seemed isolated to the United States, users from India, Argentina, and several parts of Europe also reported identical issues. Many shared their frustrations on social media, calling out Samsung for the lack of clear communication.

“Samsung server is down. Took down five-year-old TV thinking it was broken, bought a new one… only to realize the issue continues,” one user tweeted.
“Downloaded the entire Harry Potter collection… only for the servers to crash the same day,” another joked.
No Official Fix Yet
As of this writing, Samsung has yet to issue a formal statement acknowledging the cause of the outage. The brand appears to be handling the matter privately via direct messages, leaving many users in the dark.
Some who tried contacting Samsung’s customer support reported long wait times and limited help.

What’s Going On?
The core problem lies in Samsung’s Smart Hub server infrastructure, which manages streaming apps, user accounts, and overall smart functionalities. While the servers appear to be slowly recovering, no estimated timeline for full restoration has been provided.
Until then, users are advised not to factory reset their devices as it may lead to complete loss of app access.
