Scotiabank Outage 2025: Customers Still Facing Issues After Third-Party Glitch
Scotiabank users across Canada continue to report issues accessing banking services, even after the company confirmed a fix to a third-party vendor problem.

The glitch, which began on Thursday, affected account transfers, online balances, and app functionality. While the bank says the underlying issue has been resolved, some users are still unable to view accurate balances—especially on Investment and MomentumPLUS Savings accounts.
Outage Causes Frustration, Missed Payments
The timing of the outage has sparked widespread frustration, particularly since many Canadians were trying to pay bills and rent on May 1. Dozens of users took to social media to share their concerns.
“This has become a very serious issue… I am stranded with no access to my funds,” one customer wrote.
Another added, “The worst is that it’s the first of the month! Like come on.”
Scotiabank acknowledged the disruption on social media and has continued responding to customer complaints individually, stating they’re still working on restoring full functionality.

Bank Confirms Vendor Issue Behind Outage
In a statement to multiple media outlets, Scotiabank blamed the outage on a third-party vendor issue related to the processing of fund transfers. Though the root problem has been fixed, balance updates remain delayed for some accounts.
“We sincerely apologize… we are working diligently to ensure account balances are updated as soon as possible,” the bank said.
Scotiabank also promised to reimburse any fees incurred by affected clients due to the technical glitch.
No Timeline for Full Restoration
As of Friday afternoon, the bank had not provided an estimated time for when services would return to normal for all customers. In the meantime, affected users are being asked to monitor their accounts or reach out to customer service for updates.
