NoElectric Puts Acoustic Arrangements First

NoElectric grew from an all-acoustic booking that paired Stanley with bassist and cellist Jason Mercer. Guitarist Chris Bennett joined on six- and 12-string guitars, while Michael O’Grady added accordion and tin whistle to the group’s sound.

Stanley is best known as a founding member, guitarist and vocalist for Toronto alternative-rock band Lowest of the Low. His later work with the Stephen Stanley Band has kept his focus on sharply observed songwriting, including the album Before the Collapse of the Hive.

At Hugh’s Room, the acoustic format should bring the writing to the front without turning the set into a solo performance. The lineup still has enough instrumental range to move between folk, roots and the melodic rock that has shaped Stanley’s catalogue.

Jennifer Foster Brings Powerline To The Room

Jennifer Foster will open with material from Powerline, an acoustic-led folk-pop record shaped partly by memories of the New Brunswick farm where she grew up. The album centres on place, change, love and loss, using detailed songwriting rather than oversized production.

Foster co-produced the record with multi-instrumentalist Robbie Grunwald. Her earlier album led to a JUNO nomination for producer Michael Phillip Wojewoda, and her collaborators have included Ron Sexsmith, Carole Pope, Lori Cullen, Kevin Hearn and Moe Berg.
