The 37th Annual Toronto International Dragon Boat Festival returns on June 14-15, 2025, turning Centre Island into a thrilling celebration of athleticism, teamwork, and rich Chinese heritage. From high-energy races to cultural showcases, this is one summer tradition you don’t want to miss.
A 37-Year Tradition of Strength & Unity
What began in 1989 with just 27 teams has grown into one of North America’s largest and most prestigious dragon boat festivals. Presented by the Toronto Chinese Business Association in collaboration with GWN Dragon Boat, the event brings together communities through a sport that dates back 2,500 years to ancient China.
For 2025, the festival is officially part of the Dragon Boat Canada (DBC) Race Series, meaning elite teams will compete for points toward national rankings. Expect top-tier competition and a lively atmosphere as crews from across Canada, the U.S., and overseas take to the water.
What’s Happening at the 2025 Festival
Dragon Boat Races
- Over 100 teams competing in various divisions:
- Mixed, Women’s, Open, Youth, Paradragons, ACP, BCP, Industry Cups
- Race distances:
- 4 x 500m and 1 x 200m for most divisions
- Youth teams race 3 x 500m
- Race Days:
- Saturday: Time trials, 200m finals
- Sunday: Semi-finals & finals

Experience Dragon Boat Programs
Want to try paddling? Two programs are available:
- Train & Race: 5-week training + festival participation
- Race Ready: 1-hour practice + race day entry
All equipment provided. Perfect for solo paddlers or small groups.

Getting There
- Passenger Ferries to Centre Island run frequently from downtown Toronto.

On-Site Services & Rules
- Pets are welcome but must be leashed.
- No BBQs or cooking devices allowed.
- Waste management is a community effort—teams receive waste bags at check-in.
- Medical services and Toronto Police are stationed on-site for safety.
Registration Details
- Teams of 16-25 people can register.
- Options available for out-of-town, international, university, and junior teams.
- Registration fees vary by category, ranging from $800 to $1,850.
- Discounts available for early registration and e-transfer payments.

Competition Format
- Teams race in multiple heats across the weekend.
- Time trials seed teams into finals and semi-finals.
- Smaller divisions may be combined in heats but will compete independently.
