Torontohenge 2026: When and Where to Catch the Last Sunset Alignment of the Year
Torontohenge returns for the last time this year on Sunday, Oct. 25, when the setting sun lines up with downtown’s east-west streets. The sunset is expected at about 6:18 p.m. For a few minutes, the sun sits right between the skyscrapers and lights up the street grid. It happens only four times a year, twice at sunrise and twice at sunset. So if you missed the earlier ones, this is your final chance in 2026 to grab the shot. Here is how to catch it.

Torontohenge 2026 Details
- Date: Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026
- Time: Around 6:18 p.m.
- Where: East-west streets in downtown Toronto
- Cost: Free
Best Spots to See Torontohenge
The most dramatic views are in the Financial District, where tall towers frame the sun. Good streets include King, Wellington, Adelaide and Richmond.
The Entertainment District also works well, especially along King and Adelaide. For the best results, stand in the middle of a sidewalk with a clear view west, and stay off the road.
Tips for the Best Photo
- Arrive at least 30 minutes early, since the perfect alignment lasts only two to three minutes.
- Check the forecast, because cloud cover can hide the sun.
- Try shooting a few days before Oct. 25, as the sun sits in a similar spot for about a week.
- Bring a zoom lens or use your phone’s telephoto setting for a bigger sun.
Sun-tracking engineer Ralph Bouwmeester notes one more detail. If you want the moment the bottom of the sun touches the horizon, subtract about three minutes from the listed time.
What Is Torontohenge?
The name is a nod to Manhattanhenge, the same effect in New York City. It was popularized by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. In Toronto, the sun lines up with the downtown grid in February, April, August and October.
If the sky stays clear, Torontohenge is one of the easiest free photo ops in the city this fall.
