Wrexham Lager Arrives at Ontario LCBO Thanks to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney

Canada, meet Wrexham Lager. Thanks to Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the U.K.’s oldest lager is now available at LCBO stores across Ontario.

A Lager with History—and Celebrity Backing

Founded in 1882, Wrexham Lager holds the title of the oldest lager brand in the United Kingdom. Known for its light body, subtle hops, and crisp aroma, this easy-drinking brew has been a staple in Welsh brewing for over a century—and yes, it was even served on the Titanic.

Fast forward to today, and the brand has gained new global traction thanks to its celebrity ties. Reynolds and McElhenney, who co-own Wrexham AFC, officially joined the Wrexham Lager Beer Co. in October 2024 through their venture Red Dragon Ventures. Since then, the lager has found new life beyond Wales.

Now at LCBO: A Taste of Wrexham in Every Can

Ontario beer lovers can now pick up Wrexham Lager’s 500ml single cans at LCBO stores provincewide. This follows the lager’s launch in British Columbia earlier this month, where both six-packs and singles are available in BCLS and select retail outlets.

The brand’s arrival in Canada is part of a global expansion, which already includes the U.S., Australia, Northern Ireland, and parts of Scandinavia.

From Football Fields to Fridges

Wrexham AFC, the historic football club also co-owned by Reynolds and McElhenney, has seen massive success under its new leadership. Once a semi-amateur team playing in England’s fifth tier, Wrexham AFC has now secured three promotions and will play in the English Championship (the second tier) for the 2025–26 season.

Their FX docuseries, Welcome to Wrexham, has turned the small Welsh town into a global sensation—and with it, the revival of Wrexham Lager as a brand of pride and authenticity.

Now, Canadian fans can join the celebration by cracking open a cold one.
