Quebec Duo Splits $70M Lotto Max Jackpot in July 2025
A simple morning coffee turned into a life-altering moment for two Quebec residents, Jacques Deschamps and Wilhelmina Van Leeuwen, who are now Canada’s newest multimillionaires. The pair will each take home $35 million, splitting the $70 million Lotto Max jackpot from the July 11, 2025 draw.

A Morning to Remember
For Jacques Deschamps, a construction company owner from Montérégie, the day started off like any other—with a coffee and his usual Lotto Max ticket check. At first, he believed he won $3,500, then thought it might be $35,000. It wasn’t until his wife took a second look that the real number hit home.
“You won $35 million,” she told him.
The couple was so excited they called their daughter-in-law to wake up their son and share the news. Deschamps says he plans to retire, pass the company to his son, and treat his family to a life of comfort. That includes buying a condo in Montreal and traveling the world.
Van Leeuwen Claims Her Half
Wilhelmina Van Leeuwen, a retired Bell Canada technician in her 70s, learned of her windfall while checking tickets at a convenience store in Montreal’s Gay Village. The Dutch-born Montrealer had been unknowingly walking around with a multimillion-dollar ticket in her purse.

She visited Loto-Québec the very next morning to claim her prize. Her plans? More trips back to the Netherlands—twice a year now, and in first class.
Retailers Also Win Big

The retailers who sold the winning tickets will each receive $350,000 in commission. Deschamps purchased his ticket from Chanteclerc dépanneur at 290 Jacques-Cartier St. in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield.
Quebec on a Lotto Roll
This is the second massive Lotto Max win in Quebec in just a few weeks. In early June, 15 coworkers in Trois-Rivières shared a $20 million jackpot. And back in May, a single winner in British Columbia claimed a record-setting $80 million, the largest individual lottery win in Canadian history.
For Deschamps and Van Leeuwen, the win marks the beginning of a new chapter—one that includes first-class travel, family joy, and a reminder that dreams can be just one ticket away.
