2025 Canadian Screen Awards Nominations: Full List of Top Nominees

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television has officially unveiled the nominees for the 2025 Canadian Screen Awards, recognizing outstanding achievements across film, television, and digital media. This year’s contenders span 149 categories, with nominations reflecting the strength and diversity of Canada’s screen industries.

The awards will be presented over three days—May 30 to June 1, 2025—culminating in a gala hosted by comedian Lisa Gilroy, which will stream live on CBC Gem at 8:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 1.

Television: Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent Dominates

Citytv’s Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent leads this year’s pack with 20 nominations, making it the third-most nominated TV show in Canadian Screen Award history. Only Schitt’s Creek surpassed this number with 26 in 2020 and 21 in 2021.

Film: ‘Universal Language’ Takes the Lead

Winnipeg-based filmmaker Matthew Rankin’s Universal Language | Une langue universelle heads the film nominations with 13 nods, tying Mommy (2015) for the third-most nominated film in Canadian Screen Award history. The absurdist dramedy is also Oscar-shortlisted and recently won a $50,000 prize from the Toronto Film Critics Association.

In the digital media space, the comedy series My Dead Mom leads with 8 nominations, followed by:

Stories from my Gay Grandparents – 6 nominations
Everybody’s Meg – 4 nominations

These series are being recognized in categories such as Best Web Program or Series, Fiction, and Performance in a Digital Media Program.

How Winners Are Chosen

Nominees were selected by industry juries and Canadian Academy voting members. Voting begins on March 27, 2025, and runs through April 14, 2025. Winners will be celebrated across five separate ceremonies during the Canadian Screen Awards weekend.
