Blueberry Recall Issued After FDA Finds Listeria Risk in 400 Boxes

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a Class I blueberry recall for hundreds of boxes of organic blueberries due to potential Listeria contamination. Alma Pak International LLC, a Georgia-based grower and distributor, produced the affected blueberries.

400 Boxes Recalled After Positive Listeria Test

On June 9, Alma Pak voluntarily recalled 400 boxes of 30-pound organic blueberries. Each box carries the lot numbers 13325 G1060 and 13325 G1096. The recall became more serious on July 1, when the FDA classified it as Class I, its highest-level health risk.

A Class I recall means there is a reasonable probability that consuming the affected product could result in serious health consequences or death.

Who’s Most at Risk?

Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a dangerous infection that particularly affects:

  • Pregnant women and unborn babies
  • Older adults (65+)
  • People with weakened immune systems

Symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In severe cases, it can lead to meningitis or miscarriage.

Product Was Recovered Before Reaching Consumers

According to Alma Pak, the contaminated blueberries did not reach store shelves. The company said the entire batch was recovered before entering the retail market. “There was no risk to public health,” Alma Pak stated.

The company also worked closely with the FDA, Georgia Department of Agriculture, and independent food safety consultants to investigate the contamination and strengthen internal safety systems.

Enhanced Monitoring in Place

Alma Pak has since conducted enhanced testing and vector sampling, all of which returned negative for Listeria. The company says it remains committed to transparency, rigorous testing, and continuous safety improvements.

The recall remains ongoing, and anyone who suspects illness resembling listeriosis should contact a healthcare provider immediately.
