Woman Killed, Man Injured in Downtown Hamilton Shooting Near Jackson Square
A woman is dead and a man is in hospital following a broad daylight shooting in downtown Hamilton on Friday, July 11, near the busy Jackson Square mall. The incident unfolded just before 5:30 p.m. along King Street West, between James Street North and MacNab Street.
What Happened?
Hamilton Police say they responded to reports of gunfire and arrived to find two victims. The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the male victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities have not released the names or ages of the victims at this time.
Suspect Still at Large
Police confirmed that the suspect fled the area before officers arrived and remains at large. No description has been released, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
Videos circulating on social media show a heavy emergency response presence, with officers taping off sidewalks and closing roads in the downtown core. As of Friday evening, access to King Street West, MacNab, and James Street remained restricted.

Police Investigation Ongoing
Hamilton’s Emergency Response Unit was seen clearing Jackson Square as part of the ongoing investigation. Police say they are still in the early stages and expect to maintain a large presence in the area for several hours.
“We recognize that incidents of violence have a significant impact on our community,” Hamilton Police said in a statement. “We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation and ensuring public safety.”

Authorities are urging anyone who was in the area between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to share any information they may have. That includes surveillance footage, dash cam video, or eyewitness accounts.
