Hamilton Man Charged After Fatal Burlington Hit-and-Run

Halton police say 61-year-old William McArthur of Hamilton was arrested in Oakville and charged after an adult female pedestrian was killed near Maple Avenue and Richmond Road.

A Hamilton man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision that killed a woman in Burlington on August 27.

Halton Regional Police Service said William McArthur, 61, of Hamilton was arrested in Oakville on September 1. Police said he was charged with failure to stop at an accident involving death and released from custody pending his next court appearance on November 25, 2026.

The charge is an allegation and has not been proven in court.

Police Say the Collision Happened on August 27

Police said officers were called to the area of Maple Avenue and Richmond Road at approximately 3:45 p.m. on August 27. An adult female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle was last seen travelling northbound on Maple Avenue, according to police. Investigators described it as a dark-coloured sedan and said they expected it to have front-end damage. HRPS released an image of the vehicle as part of its public appeal.

The HRPS release did not identify the woman or provide further details about the evidence supporting the charge.

The Investigation Remains Open

Halton police are asking anyone with information regarding the investigation to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-825-4777 ext. 5065. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or through the Crime Stoppers of Halton website.

Police said McArthur’s next court appearance is scheduled for November 25, 2026.
