Canada Post door-to-door delivery is ending for thousands of homes in Etobicoke. Starting in mid-November 2026, residents in the M9V and M9W postal codes will get their mail at community mailboxes instead of at their front doors.

About 18,000 addresses in Etobicoke are part of this first round, blogTO reported. In addition, CTV News reported that the rest of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) could make the same switch over the next five years.

Why Canada Post Is Ending Door-to-Door Delivery

Canada Post says the change is part of a bigger plan to fix its finances. Its retail revenue has dropped 30% since 2021, blogTO reported. So, the Crown corporation wants to cut costs without “being a recurring burden on taxpayers.”

In a statement, Canada Post said it “is committed to moving forward in a thoughtful way that prioritizes service for all Canadians.”

Canada Post Door-to-Door Delivery: Key Details

  • First GTA area: Etobicoke, postal codes M9V and M9W
  • When: November 2026
  • Homes in Etobicoke: About 18,000 addresses
  • National plan: About 4 million addresses over several years
  • Big parcels: Delivered to the door or held at a local post office

Who Else Is Affected

Etobicoke is not alone. Across Canada, about 686,000 addresses in 55 communities are set to switch in late 2026 or 2027, according to Canada Post. For example, Winnipeg and Sept-Îles were among the first areas to switch in October. Then, Moncton and Riverview in New Brunswick follow in November, along with Etobicoke.

In Ontario, parts of Ottawa are also in the first round. Meanwhile, more GTA communities are expected to follow in the coming years. Because of this, it is a good idea for every Toronto household to check the schedule now.

What About Packages

Most packages fit in the parcel boxes at community mailboxes, according to Canada Post. However, larger items or ones that need a signature will still go to your door. Otherwise, they will be held at your local post office for pickup.

Tips for Etobicoke Residents

First, watch for a notice from Canada Post with your new mailbox location and key. Next, check your mail often in the first few weeks so nothing piles up. Finally, if you have trouble getting to a mailbox because of age or a disability, ask Canada Post about delivery accommodations.

What Happens Next

Etobicoke will switch first in the GTA this November. After that, Canada Post will keep rolling out the change across the country over the next few years. So, keep an eye out for updates on when your neighbourhood is next.
