Kapil Sharma’s KAP’S CAFE Targeted in Surrey Shooting, Khalistani Terrorist Claims Responsibility
Someone fired multiple gunshots at Kapil Sharma’s newly opened restaurant, KAP’S CAFE, in Surrey late Wednesday night. Authorities confirmed no one was injured, but the incident sparked international concern after Khalistani terrorist Harjeet Singh Laddi claimed responsibility.

What Happened Outside KAP’S CAFE?
A disturbing video circulating online shows a man firing at least nine shots at the café’s window from inside a vehicle before fleeing.
The shooting happened just days after the restaurant’s soft launch, which marked Kapil Sharma’s debut in the hospitality industry with his wife, Ginni Chatrath.
The area was immediately sealed off, and forensic teams began their investigation early Thursday morning.

Who Is Harjeet Singh Laddi?
Harjeet Singh Laddi, an alleged member of the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), is one of India’s most wanted terrorists. According to authorities, Laddi orchestrated the attack due to his anger over past remarks Kapil Sharma allegedly made about the attire of Nihang Sikhs.
Laddi is also wanted by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his role in the murder of VHP leader Vikas Prabhakar in Punjab in April 2024. The NIA has placed a ₹10 lakh bounty on his head.
Canada’s Role Under Scrutiny
The incident has reignited tensions between India and Canada, especially over Canada’s handling of Khalistani extremism. India has repeatedly accused Canada of harboring separatist elements and criticized Canadian political parties for defending violent speech in the name of democracy.
A recent CSIS report says Khalistani extremists are using Canada to plan and fund violent acts, mainly targeting India.

Sharma Yet to Respond
As of now, Kapil Sharma has not released a statement regarding the shooting. KAP’S CAFE had quickly gained popularity within the South Asian community in Surrey, with many fans visiting to support Sharma’s latest venture.
The attack, while causing no physical harm, sends a chilling message. It reflects ongoing geopolitical tensions spilling into diaspora communities abroad.
Do you think governments should do more to address extremist threats within immigrant communities abroad?
