McDonald’s Adds Spicy McMuffin to Menu for First Time in 50 Years
McDonald’s is turning up the heat this summer with a bold breakfast upgrade. Starting Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the fast-food giant will introduce three new Spicy McMuffin sandwiches nationwide—a first in the Egg McMuffin’s 50-year history.

A Spicy Twist on a McDonald’s Classic
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Egg McMuffin, McDonald’s is releasing spicy versions of its signature breakfast sandwiches. Each one features McDonald’s Spicy Pepper Sauce, the same sauce used in the Spicy McCrispy and the soon-to-return Snack Wrap.
The limited-time spicy lineup includes:
- Spicy Egg McMuffin
- Spicy Sausage McMuffin
- Spicy Sausage McMuffin with Egg
The only change? A fiery upgrade that adds bold flavor without losing the McMuffin’s original appeal.
Why Now? America Wants More Heat
According to food industry studies, spicy food demand is on the rise, especially among younger generations. A recent report found that 78% of Gen-Zers like or love spicy food, and two-thirds are more likely to purchase spicy menu items.

This shift in taste inspired McDonald’s to introduce spicier options without removing long-time favorites. Original McMuffin lovers can still order their go-to, while adventurous eaters get something new.
More Menu Changes Coming This Week
The launch of the Spicy McMuffin isn’t the only update. McDonald’s is also bringing back the Snack Wrap on Thursday, July 10, after years of fan requests. The new version will feature the chain’s crispy McCrispy strips, shredded lettuce, cheese, and a soft flour tortilla.
Available in Spicy or Ranch, the Snack Wrap can be ordered solo or as part of a combo meal. According to McDonald’s, this time, the Snack Wrap is here to stay—as long as customers keep ordering it.
A Smart Way to Refresh a Legendary Item
The Egg McMuffin helped launch McDonald’s breakfast success in the 1970s. With this spicy release, the company shows how to evolve an icon without losing what made it great.
